Jowin - “Cosplay Girl Rebloom” (Starring Kana Katana)
Dir. Jowin
The remixed sequel to Jowin’s acclaimed single “Cosplay Girl” gets a proper visual starring the newest cast member of his Weekend Cartunes YouTube channel, cosplayer Kana Katana. Plue Starfox’s buttery-smooth beat and the video’s depiction of a photoshoot/date provides a great backdrop for Jowin’s tale of self-identity and escapism. The Cowboy Bebop-influenced animations during the choruses also add a nice touch. Jowin’s Project: Rebloom EP is out now.
Akoko & SIR E.U - “Thee Hipókolypse”
prod. Plue Starfox
dir. Jay Dexter
Washington D.C. duo Akoko link with fellow D.C emcee Sir E.U to unleash ”Thee Hipókolypse”. The girls go in with the breath controlled double-time flows while E.U fires off smooth bars over some of the bounciest Plue Starfox production ever. The three lyricists execute an overall amazing and well-balanced song from top to bottom. Stay tuned for Akoko and Sir E.U’s upcoming albums CAT•A•RAPS and FXCK 2, respectively.

Plue Starfox - “A D A Wong”
Acclaimed New Orleans producer Plue Starfox makes his debut as a rapper with a new self-produced track, “A D A Wong”. While it might sound like an easy feat to some, it is very rare to hear producers harness their own individual voices since they work with so many others, but Plue accomplishes this almost effortlessly with a clear understanding of his ethereal style of production. His raps sound like his beats, as weird as that sounds. Anime references are all over this joint, but where most Anime-influenced rappers use this approach to very corny results, Plue and his menacing vocal presence take this to another level, much in the same vein of Miami Anime-influenced rapper Robb Bank$ but more overwhelming. Looking forward to hearing Plue’s progression as an emcee.
Plue Starfox - F R O Z E N T E A R S of The Lost Moon Village
On Plue Starfox’s latest EP, F R O Z E N T E A R S of The Lost Moon Village, the New Orleans producer makes what sounds like the soundtrack to a story about the downfall of an outer space civilization. The story is told in the most indirect and unrelated way possible through vocal contributions from Dallas, TX artist Kissed Killed, Canadian vocalist Muzzy Legault and even a posthumous cameo by the late great DMV emcee Avionadramida, resulting in the bulk of the tale left to be illustrated through the moods and textures of Plue’s instrumentals. Despite this, each of the featured artists contribute great performances. This is by far Plue’s darkest project yet. You can feel the vast emptiness of space in each track whether it be through the ambient jazz samples, scattered bass hits or lo-fi editing and it’ll definitely leave you feeling suspended. As always, keep an eye out for more Plue Starfox production coming soon through track placements and more sudden instrumental album releases like this one.
Best Of 2012:
Luve Proper - LuveDisc
While Plue Starfox was busy crafting great songs in 2012 with vocalists from all over, his alter-ego Luve Proper came through with this extremely cohesive instrumental album, LuveDisc. Presented as a pseudo-soundtrack to an RPG, Luve showcases his all-seeing-eye and all-hearing-ear for dope samples in the video game OST genre and manages to flip them with the right amount of atmospheric touches. Look out for more production from both Plue and Luve in 2013.
Best Of 2012:
Levi Watson - “Sunset Hill Zone”
prod. Plue Starfox
Atlanta emcee Levi Watson showed a huge leap in improvement with his new single “Sunset Hill Zone”, dismantling one of Plue Starfox’s best instrumentals as he talks about the duality of his life experiences. Huge potential that I hope will be actualized in 2013.
Best Of 2012:
Muzzy Legault - “BlackRose”
prod. Plue Starfox
One of our favorite beatmakers Plue Starfox discovered a Canadian singer by the name of Muzzy Legault this year and created this amazing track “BlackRose”. Blending elements of jazz and trip hop, Plue gave the perfect pulsating sound-bed for Muzzy’s mysterious lament on repairing a relationship with either a lover or herself (my interpretation). According to Plue, he’s working on a full project with Muzzy so we’re definitely looking forward to see what else this duo creates in the future.
Levi Watson - “Sunset Hill Zone”
prod. Plue Starfox
dir. Quan Stallings
Atlanta emcee Levi Watson absolutely bodies a Plue Starfox beat for his latest single “Sunset Hill Zone [Neo Sunset Zone]” and bombs audiences with rap hands while hiking a literal hill with a sunset in the accompanying video. I wasn’t really a fan of his previous tape [Neptune] but if he keeps providing these types of tracks, his next project might be ridiculously good.
Phil! - “Save Me”
prod. Plue Starfox
New Orleans producer Plue Starfox has been working with a new artist by the name of Phil!. As a soul/R&B singer/songwriter, Phil!’s breed of music is new territory for Plue to craft his sound around since he’s been mainly working with emcees (or getting his beats jacked by them; those people whom I’ve placed several hexes on). However, the combination seems to be a no-brainer due to Plue’s melodic production tendencies. The two are still fine-tuning their chemistry, but with this new track “Save Me”, it sounds like they’re on the right path.
SiR E.U - “TRIPPO”
dir. Chick Gaynor
Young Steven Mane La Flare simply bars off in a Captain Morgan and Tanqueray-induced stupor while shirtless with a big ass Toronto Raptors jacket, several necklaces and shorts (ignorant) in his new Chick Gaynor-directed music video for the dark stream of consciousness flow barrage known as “TRIPPO” off E.U’s previous full length album H I P P O P O T A M U S.
ps. SiR E.U recently dropped his new single “63 HUNNA” produced by Plue Starfox off his upcoming project 3000% Black Excellence set to release later this year. Download “63 HUNNA” below.
