Zeroh - Bred: A Dedication
The always enigmatic Zeroh has suddenly dropped a 10-track project titled Bred: A Dedication. This first of many more projects to drop this year features collaborations with mndsgn, Jonwayne, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Jeremiah Jae, Ohbliv and more with Zeroh anchoring everything with his calm-yet-zany method of wordplay and scattered spurts of disjointed singing.
Kenny Segal - Kenstrumentalz Vol. 1
Kenny Segal, known for his critically acclaimed work with Los Angeles collective Project Blowed releases a new instrumental album. Jazzy and mellow sample flips are abundant. Highly recommended for the next time you need to chill out.
Jowin - “Please Save Mii” (prod. Plue Starfox)
First single off Jowin’s upcoming project titled Jowin Actually Has Friends is “Please Save Mii”, a very dance-ready track that involves Jowin reuniting with producer Plue Starfox. The two have previously collaborated on an entire project a couple of years back titled Luff, Jowin which showcased a distinct chemistry different from Plue’s other collaborative ventures. On this new track, Jowin talks about finding a safe haven in someone or a something while delivering a very throwback r&b hook over some seriously tropical production by Plue.
Evil Needle - Qualia
Qualia is simply a gorgeous instrumental album by French producer Evil Needle. This is his second release via Los Angeles-based label HW&W Recordings. While making you feel as if you’re floating down a waterfall in deep space, these beats also SLAP.
For some more insight, here is a definition of the word “qualia” from Wikipedia:
“Qualia” is a term used in philosophy to refer to individual instances of subjective, conscious experience. The term derives from a Latin word meaning for “what sort” or “what kind.” Examples of qualia are the pain of a headache, the taste of wine, or the perceived redness of an evening sky.
Enjoy.

Mishka presents: Khalil Nova - 808s of Life
NYC streetwear brand Mishka recently put their stamp of approval on Atlantean artist Khalil Nova’s new album 808s of Life. Combining spaced-out melodies with droning trap drum programming, Nova applies his distinct vocal delivery and engineering that results in him sounding like he’s rapping inside of a vortex. While braggadocious, the music and the resulting presentation comes off as slightly meditative. This is definitely some NEW form of hip hop coming from the progressive side of the Atlanta soundscape.
Buffalo Black - Buffalo Black LP
Texas emcee Buffalo Black combines just the right amount of energy, awareness, technical skill and sonic cohesion for his new self titled LP. The beats, made by various producers such as the Midnight Kids N.O.M.A.D, SamuraiMugen and more, all have a dark tinge that increases the intensity of Black’s delivery; creating a brand of intelligent fight music. The aesthetic is even applied to subjects such as sex on the very abrasive “Just Breathe”. Things get toned down towards the end to create a more insular experience that balances out the ferocity. A very well-rounded release.
Alias: The Architect - Steady Rock
Drawing influences from the worlds of 8-bit, Reggae, Soul and more, Southern California producer and multi-instrumentalist Alias: The Architect composes beats with every ingredient made completely from scratch on his free debut LP, Steady Rock. You’d swear these tracks all used samples, but everything (except the obvious recordings) down to the 8-bit and the singing is organic. Stay tuned for much more new music from Alias.
N.O.M.A.D - N O / H I D I N G
Texas producer N.O.M.A.D returns with his latest album N O / H I D I N G. An appropriate title, N O / H I D I N G reveals N.O.M.A.D making his debut as an emcee on a few tracks. More than likely, almost all producers make great emcees as they are the ones who understand their sound better than anyone else, and N.O.M.A.D evidently knows how to tame his very wild sound.
Cosmic Compositions - Avant Garde Series Vol. 2 [Alice Coltrane]
New Zealand curators Cosmic Compositions compile tracks from artists from the US, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden and more for their latest Avant Garde Series tape paying tribute to the late great Jazz pianist, Alice Coltrane. Later taking on the name Turiyasangitananda, Alice evolved from playing Jazz with her husband, the legendary John Coltrane to more meditative music after his death. Her legacy continues to gain recognition through her descendant, Flying Lotus. With the emergence of the beat scene, her music is an interesting conduit for producers to channel their energy into, as evidenced by the tracks in this compilation. Cop this great juxtaposition of the past, present and future.
