Zeroh - “Coves & Caves”
Dir. David M. Helman

Los Angeles artist Zeroh dives into a deeper experimental realm than his previous project, tape with this new track “Coves & Caves”. Enhanced with the distinct animation stylings of RUFFMERCY (as seen on the music videos for Blu’s “Doinnothin”, ScHoolboy Q’s “There He Go” and many more), a simple video of hanging out and doing acrobatics with skater homies turns into a dark visual trip. Shout outs to the homegirl Low Leaf and LA beat scene veteran Ras G on the cameos.

dj honda ft. Mysonne - “All I Need Is Love”
dir. Mills Miller

This might be the most random collaboration ever, but it doesn’t sound too far fetched. Japan’s dj honda, well known for his collaboration with NY veteran Mos Def on “Travelin’ Man”, links with another NY emcee Mysonne on the dark but uplifting track “All I Need Is Love”. Hopefully this means there’s a new dj honda album coming soon.

mdnt ft. Jez Dior - “Dreamcatcher”
dir. Colin Kelly

mdnt (pronounced Midnight) is a Brooklyn-based singer that brings a balanced mix of big electronic production and soulful vocals together, or as he calls it, Future Soul. As his formal debut, “Dreamcatcher” leaves a great first impression with a very well-produced music video that is ambiguous in nature yet matches the music.

Intuition & Equilibrum - “Ain’t The Blues”
dir. Kyle Gray

I have nothing to say. These lyrics need more spotlight than anything I could write about them:

[Verse 1]
Yo,
I ain’t gonna front
It’s been a rough couple months
Sex, ladies having babies business just been fucking up
Plus I been feeling like my tongue is stuck
Puffin’ blunts to feel something other than nothing, nah.
This bubble keeps up on the outside
But let’s them in enough to think there’s never any downtime
The town sides muffles the outcries about white lies that the side of my mouth hides
Yeah, I said I hide behind a mask
Trying to find the line of sight - I write about the past
Lookin’ at the stars, lying on the grass
And cooking up them bars when I’m high enough to gas
I fall for girls that’s taken
Swooping relations on the verge of breaking
Wonder if my turns worth the wait
When the search don’t work and the flirts is vacant

[Hook]
It’s a piece of paper that you got paid in for school
Look at your feet and wonder who made your shoes
The feeling in your tummy knowing money made the moves
But nah, this ain’t the blues - Na-uh, it ain’t the blues
It’s knowing that you’re going nowhere, paying dues
And thinking that your ma dukes ashamed of you
Knowing that someone you trusted just be playing you
But nah, this ain’t the blues - Na-uh, it ain’t the blues

[Verse 2]
Nah, it’s something much deeper
You wanna fall in love but know lust is just cheaper
Cut it up, bust a nut and just leave her.
You fuckin’ up, know you’re running from keepers
I spend a lot of time in my cave, now worried that the drum breaks may lead to break downs
Zennin? on a song that’s never ending,
Lifting up the pen and pretending, I’m picking up the pace now
But what’s the point of runnin’ faster - if you’re only runnin’ laps
You’re so concerned about staying on the track you forget the finish line’s the starting point you’re coming back to.
So now I keep it how the crow flies
Cause road signs never point to gold mines
And closed eyes don’t enjoy the whole ride
Bundled for a cold night, buckle up and hold tight

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
Yo,
Money comes and goes
If it goes before it comes shit you know your role lower your soul or go and load your gun
Never yelled but never heard, your tongue
It never listened to the tall tales some of those soldiers spun
The truth has a few different shades
Believe ability belongs to who’s getting paid
I didn’t know the rules, I was new to the game
‘til you snapped your foul fingers and the crew shifted ways
Man, I was a fool to the air when
I understood you and embody blue number seven
I did the work - you took the credit
You played the game smarter - that’s cool; I accept it.
But don’t be out smearing my name while
You step on peoples backs to get yourself paid, pal.
Fuck around and get laid out. Ignore me when you see me - stay away with your fake smile

(Lyrics via RapGenius)

And of course Equalibrum supplies the perfect soundscape for Intuition’s personal update on life that manages to be braggadocious in it’s highly technical lyricism but not with it’s content. Each new single these two have released in the past few months are powerful pieces of music. Their upcoming album is looking great so far.

Sir E.U - “THE THIRD ONE”
prod. Kisai The Spooniest Bard
dir. Helena Banks

Last time we got “THE FIFTH ONE” with Cal Rips; this week we get Sir E.U going solo dolo on new single and music video “THE THIRD ONE” off his upcoming album FXCK2. Producer Kisai The Spooniest Bard provides an extremely punchy beat that has more cut up keys than the traps of trapsylvania for E.U to lace with an equally choppy extended verse. Filmmaker Helena Banks also does some serious cutting on the editing for the video. This is basically the scene from Dragonball Z when Future Trunks cuts cyborg Frieza into a billion pieces in hip hop form. FXCK2 drops late March.

Jowin - “Wallflower”
dir. Antoine Rucker

Macon, GA artist Jowin reboots his Weekend Cartunes YouTube channel with a new music video for the single “Wallflower” off his upcoming album Project: Rebloom OST. “Wallflower“‘s music video retains the oxymoron message of the track (a danceable theme song for wallflowers) and adds in sequences of intense motion graphics effects by visual artist Tommy Merkava. Project: Rebloom OST should be out some time this weekend.

Homeboy Sandman - “Couple Bars”
prod. J57
dir. Pacool

Not your traditional love song, Stones Throw artist Homeboy Sandman showcases his mastery of the English language (and in extension, macking skills) with “Couple Bars”. The title of the song is clearly an understatement as the wordy lyricist uses what seems to be an infinite barrage of rhyme schemes to woo a fine Latina joint pictured in the video. “Couple Bars” is off Sandman’s latest release First Of A Living Breed.

Arima Ederra - “Flow Chart”
prod. Bhonstro
dir. Ashlay Cashlay

Las Vegas-based artist Arima Ederra releases a new music video for the single “Flow Chart” off her latest release Earth To Arima EP (one of our favorite projects of 2012). The smooth and exotic sounding Bhonstro-produced track is fitted with visuals of the singer partaking in some kind of desert campfire get down, giving the overall atmosphere a tribal yet modern vibe.

Hawdwerk - “MasterMind”
prod. Kaleem Wasif
dir. Kaz Masud

No Ricky Rozay. This is Covina, CA’s own
Hardwerk with his latest single “MasterMind” off his upcoming project The Graveyard Shift. The beats and flows on this track are just real quality hip hop, no frills. Looks like 2013 is going to get that werk.

SOL - “Oye Mi Canto”
dir. Cinemadona

New Orleans artist SOL has been making waves in the South with her masterful art direction and of course, the bars…her very poetic lyrical bursts. However, in the title track of her upcoming debut album Oye Mi Canto, she breaks down into pure energy form channeling the iggidy-flow of Das Efx into something of a war cry/call to arms. Watch this video to see how this all comes together. Oye Mi Canto is scheduled for release in early 2013.
